Terms of Service

Last updated 1 October 2026

The short version: the passages you bring stay yours, the reading levels are estimates you should check before class, and this is a free tool with no uptime promise.

What this service does

Reading Leveler takes a passage you provide and rewrites it at three reading levels — Support, Core, and Extension — using a language model. It scores each version with the Flesch-Kincaid formula and shows you what changed. It is operated by Bulrush Labs LLC.

By using it you agree to these terms. If you do not, please do not use it.

Your content stays yours

You keep all rights to the passages you bring and to the leveled versions produced from them. You grant us only the permission needed to run the service: to send your passage to whichever language-model provider we are using, as described in the Privacy policy, to store it so you can come back to it, and to show it to anyone you give a share link to.

We do not claim ownership of your material and we do not use it to train models.

Only bring material you may use

You are responsible for having the right to use the passages you paste or upload. Much classroom use of copyrighted text is permitted under fair use or your local equivalent, but that judgement is yours to make, not ours.

Do not put student data into the service. No names, grades, assessment results, IEP or 504 content, or anything else identifying a particular child. Reading Leveler has not been built or reviewed to hold student records and we have no agreement with your school or district covering them. Level the reading material, not anything about the reader. The Privacy policy sets this out in full.

The reading levels are estimates

This matters more than the rest of this page, so it is worth being plain about it. The grade levels are produced by a readability formula applied to text a language model wrote. Both are approximations. In our own testing a meaningful share of generated passages land outside their target band, and a model can misread a passage, drop a nuance, or quietly change a fact.

Read the output before you put it in front of students. The tool is an assistant for preparing material, not a substitute for your professional judgement, and it should not be relied on where accuracy carries consequences.

Acceptable use

Please do not:

  • use the service to produce unlawful, harassing, or deceptive material;
  • attempt to break, overload, or circumvent the usage limits, bot checks, or authentication;
  • scrape the service or resell access to it without our written agreement;
  • upload malware, or content you have no right to upload.

Availability

Reading Leveler is provided free of charge. There is no uptime commitment: it may be slow, unavailable, or changed without notice, and features may be added or removed. We may apply usage limits to keep it running for everyone.

Ending your use

You can stop at any time and ask us to delete your account and its contents. We may suspend or end access for anyone who breaks these terms or puts the service at risk.

No warranty, and limits on liability

The service is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that output will be accurate, suitable for a given reader, or free of error.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Bulrush Labs LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost data or lost profits, arising from your use of the service. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Massachusetts.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects your rights we will update the date above and note what changed. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
